Sculptra

Galderma's biostimulator injection for large-scale volume restoration. Builds your own collagen.

Also known as: Sculptra Aesthetic, PLLA filler, collagen stimulator

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is Galderma's brand of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) injection. The product was originally approved in 1999 in the EU for HIV-related lipoatrophy and has since become one of the most established biostimulators in aesthetic medicine. Sculptra is supplied as a powder which is reconstituted in sterile water before injection.

How Sculptra works

Unlike fillers, Sculptra adds no immediate volume. The PLLA microparticles signal fibroblasts to produce new collagen, mainly type I — the structural collagen that gives skin firmness and thickness. The process runs over 4 to 6 months. Sculptra treatment is therefore given as a course of 2 to 3 sessions 4 to 6 weeks apart.

Sculptra at Dibélle

Sculptra is used mainly for patients with general volume loss where point injections of hyaluronic acid become unrealistic. The most common areas are cheeks, temples, lateral mid-face, décolletage, upper arms, and knees in cases of laxity after weight loss. We follow Galderma's trained protocol including at least 24 hours of reconstitution and the mandatory 5×5×5 post-treatment massage.

Results and safety

Results emerge gradually and are judged at 6 months. The final result lasts up to 25 months once full collagen build-up is established. Three critical safety points: correct reconstitution time, deep subdermal injection depth, and the 5×5×5 massage (5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days) to prevent nodules. Sculptra cannot be dissolved like hyaluronic acid. Choose an injector with specific Galderma training.

Common questions about Sculptra

How long does Sculptra last?
Results last up to 25 months once full collagen build-up is established. That is longer than any other biostimulator on the market, but it requires 2 to 3 sessions 4 to 6 weeks apart before the final result is visible.
What does Sculptra cost in Helsingborg?
Sculptra is priced per vial and the total depends on the number of vials and sessions. At Dibélle the price always includes consultation, treatment, and follow-up. Current pricing is on our prices page.
Are Sculptra and Radiesse the same thing?
No. Both are biostimulators but the active ingredient differs: Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) which breaks down over 9 to 12 months; Radiesse contains calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) which breaks down over 12 to 18 months. Sculptra adds no immediate volume; Radiesse does. Both stimulate collagen.
Why don't I see results immediately after Sculptra?
PLLA in Sculptra adds no direct volume — it triggers gradual collagen build-up over 4 to 6 months. The first weeks the cheeks may even feel flatter than before. That is the product's design. The final result is judged at 6 months.
Can Sculptra be dissolved if I'm not happy?
No, PLLA cannot be dissolved like hyaluronic acid. The substance breaks down naturally over 9 to 12 months. That makes correct injection technique and reconstitution critical — always choose an injector with specific Sculptra training.
How many Sculptra sessions are needed?
Standard is 2 to 3 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. The number depends on the degree of volume loss and the area. Maintenance is done at need after 18 to 24 months.
