PDRN

DNA fragments from salmon that signal fibroblasts to repair the skin. The active ingredient in Rejuran.

Also known as: polydeoxyribonucleotide, salmon DNA, Rejuran

What is PDRN?

PDRN is short DNA fragments purified from salmon sperm. Salmon DNA is structurally similar to human DNA and the fragments are purified to medical grade. The Korean product Rejuran is the most widely used clinical form.

How it works in treatment

PDRN binds to adenosine A2A receptors and triggers three processes: increased fibroblast activity (more collagen and elastin), better microcirculation, and reduced inflammation. PDRN is not a filler. It does not add volume; it triggers the skin's own repair.

Where it is used

PDRN is injected into the papillary dermis, that is very superficially. The treatment covers the whole face or focuses on the under-eye area. Indications include acne scars, fine lines, uneven skin tone, skin quality, and sun-damaged skin. Standard protocol is 3 sessions spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart.

Results and safety

Results emerge over 4 to 8 weeks. What you see is the skin's own regeneration, not the product itself. Salmon allergy is a contraindication. PDRN cannot be dissolved, but as it does not add volume there is no risk of migration or nodules.

Common questions about PDRN

How does PDRN differ from hyaluronic acid?
PDRN does not add volume. It triggers the skin's own repair through adenosine A2A receptors. Hyaluronic acid fills out tissue. PDRN is used for skin quality, acne scars, and thin under-eye skin, not volume restoration.
How many PDRN treatments are needed?
Standard is 3 sessions spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart, then maintenance after 6 to 12 months. Results develop over 4 to 8 weeks following the last session.
Is PDRN safe with a salmon allergy?
No. Salmon allergy is a contraindication. PDRN is purified from salmon sperm and even though proteins are removed, trace amounts may remain. People with fish allergy should choose a different regenerative treatment such as polynucleotides from another source.
What is the difference between PDRN and polynucleotides?
PDRN has shorter DNA chains (50 to 1500 dalton) and focuses on regeneration. Polynucleotides have longer chains (200,000 to 1 million dalton) and provide both regenerative effect and mild structural support. Polynucleotides are a hybrid; PDRN is pure repair signalling.
