Also known as: mesotherapy, microinjections, intradermal injections
What is mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy was developed in 1952 by the French physician Michel Pistor. The technique is built on a simple concept: small doses placed exactly where the effect is needed. Active substances are injected with a fine needle or device (mesoject gun) into the papillary or reticular dermis. What is injected varies — the RRS line alone has over 20 different cocktails for specific indications.
How the technique works
By placing the substance directly in the target organ (the skin), tissue concentration is higher than with oral or topical use. The microneedling itself also activates the skin's repair response — fibroblasts react to mechanical stimulus with collagen build-up. The result is synergy between the substance and the skin's own response.
Where it is used
At Dibélle, mesotherapy is used across several indications: skin quality and hydration (RRS HA), pigment (RRS HA Whitening), tensor effect (RRS HA Tensor Lift), eye area (RRS HA Eyes), hair anchoring (Polyphil Hair), and cellulite. The mesoject gun automates the injections for even distribution. Standard is 4-6 sessions spaced 2-3 weeks apart.
Results and safety
Results emerge over 6-8 weeks. Because these are intradermal micro-doses, systemic side-effect risk is minimal. Local side effects: pinprick marks, bruising, and minor bleeding that resolve within days. Mesotherapy is avoided during pregnancy and in patients on anticoagulant medication.
Common questions about Mesotherapy
- What is the difference between mesotherapy and a skin booster?
- A skin booster (e.g. Profhilo, Restylane Skinboosters) is a specific class of products with hyaluronic acid injected subdermally. Mesotherapy is a technique that can deliver any substance into the middle skin layer. Some skin booster protocols follow the mesotherapy technique.
- How many mesotherapy treatments are needed?
- Standard is 4-6 sessions spaced 2-3 weeks apart, then maintenance once every 3-6 months depending on indication. Hair anchoring and cellulite usually need more sessions than skin quality treatments.
- Is mesotherapy painful?
- Microinjections in the papillary dermis give a light stinging sensation. Topical EMLA anaesthetic is used for sensitive areas or mesoject gun protocols with many points. Most experience it as well tolerated.
- Which cocktail is right for me?
- It depends on the indication. For skin glow and hydration RRS HA fits. Darker skin tones with pigment need RRS HA Whitening. Loose thin under-eye skin suits RRS HA Eyes. Consultation is needed to choose the right protocol.
