Rejuran: The Guide to PDRN and Biostimulation

There are moments in aesthetic medicine that change everything. New ingredients, new insights, new ways of understanding the skin. Rejuran is one such moment. For over a decade, this treatment has been one of South Korea's best-kept secrets, a country that is at least five years ahead of the rest of the world when it comes to skincare and aesthetic innovation. Now Rejuran has finally reached Europe, and at Dibélle in Helsingborg, we have been offering it from the start.

Rejuran is not a filler. It doesn't fill. It repairs, renews and strengthens the skin from within, at a cellular level. The secret lies in something called PDRN, polynucleotides extracted from salmon DNA, and it is precisely this ingredient that has the skincare world talking about a paradigm shift. Away from concealing and filling, towards actually healing and regenerating.

In this guide, I share everything you need to know about Rejuran treatment: the science behind PDRN, how it differs from fillers and other biostimulators, what to expect during and after treatment, and why it is the most talked-about trend in aesthetic medicine in 2026. Want to prepare for your treatment? Read our preparation guide for the best possible results.

What is Rejuran?

Rejuran Healer is an injectable skin rejuvenator developed in South Korea by Pharma Research Products. The active ingredient is PDRN, polydeoxyribonucleotide, a biological molecule extracted from salmon DNA through an advanced purification process. It may sound exotic, but the science behind it is solid and well-documented.

Salmon DNA has a unique property: its polynucleotides are structurally very similar to those found in human tissue. This means the body recognises and accepts them as natural building blocks, which minimises the risk of allergic reactions and maximises the biological effect.

PDRN: the science in brief

PDRN has been studied in regenerative medicine for decades, long before it became popular in aesthetics. In wound healing and orthopaedics, PDRN has been shown to stimulate cell renewal, reduce inflammation and accelerate tissue repair. It was these properties that led South Korean researchers to ask: What happens if we apply the same principle to ageing skin?

The answer was Rejuran, and the results exceeded expectations.

PDRN works by activating what is called the adenosine A2A receptor in skin cells. This receptor functions as a biological switch that initiates several important processes:

  • Fibroblast activation: Fibroblasts are the skin's collagen-producing cells. PDRN stimulates them to work more intensively, leading to increased production of collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycans (such as hyaluronic acid).

  • Anti-inflammation: PDRN has a documented anti-inflammatory effect that calms chronic low-grade inflammation in the skin, one of the primary causes of premature ageing (sometimes called inflammaging).

  • Angiogenesis: The formation of new, small blood vessels is improved, meaning better nutrition and oxygen supply to skin cells. The result is healthier, more vital skin.

  • Cellular repair: PDRN functions as scaffolding material for damaged cells, helping the skin repair itself more efficiently.

It is this combination of mechanisms that makes Rejuran unique. It doesn't work on just one front, it activates the skin's entire repair system.

Biostimulation: the new way to think about skin rejuvenation

Rejuran belongs to a category called biostimulators, treatments that stimulate the body's own biological processes instead of adding foreign substances. It is a fundamentally different approach compared to traditional fillers.

With fillers, we add volume from the outside. With biostimulation like Rejuran, we activate the skin's inner ability to regenerate itself. The result is not immediately visible in the same way, but it is deeper, more natural and more lasting.

It's like the difference between painting over a crack in the wall and repairing it from within. Both have their place, but it is the repair that solves the underlying problem.

At Dibélle, we offer several biostimulators, Rejuran, Profhilo, Sculptra and polynucleotide treatments like PhilArt and Nucleofill. Each treatment has its strengths, and during your consultation in Helsingborg, we help you find the one that suits your skin best. Read more in our fillers guide for a comparison.

How does Rejuran differ from fillers?

This is the most common question we receive at Dibélle, and it deserves a clear answer. Rejuran and fillers are two fundamentally different treatments that solve different problems, and in many cases, they complement each other.

Fillers: immediate volume

Fillers, such as Juvéderm, Restylane and Stylage, consist of hyaluronic acid gel that is injected to add volume. They fill out wrinkles, create contour and give immediately visible results. You see the difference directly in the mirror. But the filler does not change the skin's quality itself, it compensates for volume loss.

Rejuran: repair from within

Rejuran adds no volume at all. Instead, the PDRN molecules activate the skin's own repair mechanism. The skin gradually becomes thicker, firmer and more elastic, not because we have filled it, but because it has built itself up from within. It is a real, biological rejuvenation.

Key differences

  • Purpose: Fillers: volume and contour. Rejuran: skin quality and repair.
  • Results: Fillers: immediately visible. Rejuran: gradual improvement over 4 to 8 weeks.
  • Duration: Fillers: 6 to 18 months depending on product. Rejuran: 12+ months with maintenance.
  • Mechanism: Fillers: physical filling. Rejuran: biological stimulation of collagen.
  • Texture improvement: Fillers: minimal impact. Rejuran: marked improvement in pores, texture, radiance.
  • Risk of "overfilling": Fillers: risk exists with overtreatment. Rejuran: virtually none.

The truly smart strategy? Combine them. Rejuran for skin quality, fillers for volume. That is exactly the approach we often recommend at Dibélle in Helsingborg, and the result is remarkably natural.

What can Rejuran treat?

One of Rejuran's strengths is its versatility. Because the treatment works at a cellular level with the skin's fundamental repair mechanisms, it can improve a range of skin conditions.

Fine lines and wrinkles

Rejuran's collagen-stimulating effect makes it particularly effective against fine lines, the superficial wrinkles that appear when the skin loses elasticity and firmness. Unlike Botox, which relaxes muscles, Rejuran works to actually strengthen the skin tissue. Many of our clients in Helsingborg combine Rejuran with Botox for optimal results: Botox for movement-related wrinkles and Rejuran for skin quality.

Uneven skin texture and enlarged pores

Skin texture is what separates young skin from ageing skin. Youthful skin is smooth, even and reflects light uniformly. Over time, the surface structure becomes coarser and pores widen. Rejuran improves skin texture by stimulating the formation of new collagen in the dermis, which tightens pores and evens out the surface. See our Dermapen guide if you're also interested in mechanical collagen stimulation.

Dark circles under the eyes

The skin under the eyes is the thinnest on the entire face, just 0.5 mm thick. With age, it becomes even thinner, and the dark blood vessels beneath become increasingly visible. Rejuran Eyes is a special formulation adapted for this delicate area. By thickening and strengthening the skin around the eyes, the translucency decreases, and the dark circles gradually fade. Read more about Rejuran Eyes on our treatment page.

Acne scars and superficial scars

Scar tissue has a disorganised collagen structure. Rejuran's PDRN molecules help the skin break down the disordered collagen structure and replace it with new, well-organised collagen. The result is that scars gradually flatten and soften. For deeper acne scars, we often recommend a combination treatment with Dermapen for the best results.

Dull, tired skin lacking radiance

This is perhaps Rejuran's most popular application. You don't have a specific skin condition, the skin is just tired. Lacklustre, sagging, without the youthful glow it once had. Rejuran awakens the skin from within. The increased collagen production, improved blood circulation and anti-inflammatory effect work together to give the skin a natural, healthy radiance.

Sun-damaged skin

Chronic sun exposure breaks down collagen and elastin and causes uneven pigmentation. Rejuran's repair effect at the cellular level makes it an excellent complement in the rehabilitation of sun-damaged skin. Combined with consistent sun protection and a good skincare routine, Rejuran can help the skin recover.

How the treatment works at Dibélle

Consultation

Every Rejuran treatment at Dibélle in Helsingborg begins with a thorough consultation. We analyse your skin, discuss your wishes and create an individual treatment plan. It is during the consultation that we determine whether Rejuran Healer (face) or Rejuran Eyes, or a combination, is the right choice for you.

Preparation

Treatment day begins with thorough cleansing of the skin. Then we apply a medical numbing cream that is left to work for approximately 30 minutes. The numbing ensures that most people experience the treatment as entirely comfortable.

The injection process

Rejuran is injected with a series of small, superficial injections into the dermis, the skin's middle layer. The technique is called nappage and involves distributing the product evenly across the treatment area. Each session takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes, it is one of the quickest treatments we offer.

Immediately after the injections, you will see 40 to 60 small bumps (papules) in the skin. It looks somewhat like a golf ball texture. Don't worry, this is completely normal and a sign that the product is correctly placed.

Immediately after treatment

We finish with a soothing serum and sunscreen. You can return to your daily activities straight away, there is no real recovery time. Most of our clients book their Rejuran treatment during lunch and return to work afterwards.

"Rejuran is one of the treatments I am most enthusiastic about right now. It represents an entirely new way of thinking about skin rejuvenation, not concealing or compensating, but actually repairing the skin at a cellular level. What fascinates me about PDRN is that it activates processes the body already knows how to perform, it gives the skin the tools to heal itself. And the results? They speak for themselves. Clients who return after 4 to 6 weeks with skin that radiates from within, that is what makes my work meaningful." Abir Mustafa, registered nurse, Dibélle

Recovery and aftercare

One of Rejuran's great advantages is the minimal recovery time. Compared to Dermapen or chemical peeling, Rejuran has significantly less downtime. This makes the treatment popular among professionals who cannot afford multiple days away from work.

Day 0 (treatment day): The small bumps (papules) are clearly visible. Mild redness and swelling may occur. Avoid touching your face unnecessarily. Do not use active skincare products.

Day 1: The papules begin to flatten. Gentle massage approximately 24 hours after treatment can accelerate the process. No makeup for the first 12 hours. Avoid intense exercise, sauna and alcohol.

Day 1 to 2: Most people find that the papules have disappeared or are barely visible. Redness may persist for some.

Day 3: The skin has normalised for the vast majority. You can return to your normal skincare routine and makeup.

Week 2 to 4: Now things start happening beneath the surface. Fibroblasts are working intensively to produce new collagen. You may start to notice that the skin feels tighter and fresher.

Week 4 to 8: The full effect becomes visible. The skin has a new radiance, fine lines have softened and texture has improved markedly.

Month 3 to 6: Collagen remodelling is still underway. Results continue to improve.

Aftercare tips for the best results

Good aftercare can make a significant difference to the final result. Here are our recommendations:

  • SPF 50+ daily for at least 2 weeks after treatment, this is non-negotiable
  • Avoid retinol and strong acids for 48 hours after treatment
  • Drink plenty of water: good hydration supports collagen production
  • Sleep with your head slightly elevated on treatment night to minimise swelling
  • Avoid alcohol for the first 24 hours, it can increase inflammation and swelling
  • Avoid swimming pools, saunas and steam rooms for at least 48 hours

How many treatments are needed?

Rejuran is a cumulative treatment, each session builds on the previous one. Our recommendation at Dibélle in Helsingborg:

  • Initial course: 2 to 4 treatments at 3 to 6 week intervals
  • Maintenance: 1 to 2 treatments per year to maintain results

The first improvements are noticed after 2 to 3 weeks, but it is after the second or third treatment that most clients experience the most dramatic change. By then, the skin has built up a new foundation of collagen, and the cumulative effect becomes clear.

Why Rejuran is the hottest trend of 2026

If you follow the global aesthetics industry, you have probably noticed that one word keeps appearing everywhere: biostimulation. This is not a passing trend, it is a fundamental shift in how we think about skin rejuvenation.

The shift from filling to repair

For decades, aesthetic medicine has been dominated by the filling principle, we lose volume with age, so we fill it back. Fillers, implants, fat transfers. It works, but it only addresses the symptoms.

Biostimulation, with Rejuran at the forefront, represents the next step: treating the cause of skin ageing. By activating cellular repair mechanisms, we are not just treating the wrinkle, we are treating the skin that produced the wrinkle.

PDRN: the ingredient everyone is talking about

In South Korea, PDRN-based treatments have dominated the market for over ten years. Now interest is exploding globally. Search terms like "rejuran skin booster" and "PDRN treatment" show record increases, and the major aesthetic congresses of 2025 to 2026 have all featured biostimulation as their main theme.

At Dibélle in Helsingborg, we have offered Rejuran since early on, we always want to be at the forefront and offer our clients the most effective treatments available. It's not about chasing trends, but about constantly evaluating and integrating the best that science has to offer.

Rejuran Skin Booster: what does it mean?

You may have seen the term "Rejuran Skin Booster" on social media. It is essentially the same treatment, the term skin booster has become a popular umbrella term for injectable skin quality treatments. Rejuran fits perfectly into this category: a treatment that boosts the skin's own ability to renew itself, without adding volume or changing the face's proportions.

Myths and facts about Rejuran

"Rejuran is just a hyaluronic acid product"

Myth. Rejuran contains no hyaluronic acid at all. The active ingredient is PDRN, polynucleotides from salmon DNA. It is an entirely different molecule with an entirely different mechanism of action. Hyaluronic acid binds moisture. PDRN activates cellular repair processes. Some confuse Rejuran with products like Profhilo, which is hyaluronic acid-based.

"Could I be allergic to Rejuran if I'm allergic to fish?"

Important question. PDRN in Rejuran undergoes an extensive purification process that removes proteins, it is proteins, not DNA, that cause fish allergies. The risk of cross-reaction is considered very low. However, we always recommend caution and conduct a thorough allergy history during the consultation. If you have a known, severe fish allergy, we recommend abstaining.

"Results are visible immediately after treatment"

Myth. Unlike fillers, which provide immediate volume, Rejuran works gradually. The small bumps you see immediately after treatment are not the result, they are a temporary reaction. The real improvements, thicker, firmer, more radiant skin, develop over 4 to 8 weeks as new collagen forms.

"One treatment is enough"

Partly true. You will notice improvements after a single treatment, but for optimal results, an initial course of 2 to 4 treatments is recommended. Each session builds on the previous one, and the cumulative effect is significantly greater.

Rejuran in combination with other treatments

One of the things I appreciate most about Rejuran is how well it combines with other treatments. Some of the most effective combinations we offer at Dibélle:

  • Rejuran + Botox: Rejuran improves skin quality while Botox relaxes movement-related wrinkles. Result: a complete rejuvenation with a natural appearance. Read more in our Botox guide.

  • Rejuran + Fillers: Rejuran for skin texture and radiance, fillers for volume and contour. Result: skin that looks both plump and vital. See our fillers guide for more information.

  • Rejuran + Dermapen: Dermapen for mechanical collagen stimulation, Rejuran for biological. Dual stimulation gives enhanced results, particularly for scars and texture issues. Read our Dermapen guide.

  • Rejuran + Chemical peeling: Chemical peeling for surface renewal and pigmentation, Rejuran for deep repair. Read more in our peeling guide.

We always recommend at least 2 weeks between different treatments to give the skin time to heal and respond optimally.

Frequently asked questions about Rejuran

Does the Rejuran treatment hurt?

With medical numbing cream applied 30 minutes before treatment, most people experience minimal pain, a slight stinging sensation that the vast majority describe as entirely manageable. The treatment itself takes only 10 to 15 minutes.

How long do the results of Rejuran last?

The collagen stimulation that Rejuran provides has a long-lasting effect. With an initial course of 2 to 4 treatments, results can last 12 months or more. Maintenance treatments 1 to 2 times per year help you preserve and build on the results.

Is Rejuran safe?

Yes. Rejuran has been used in South Korea since 2014 and has a well-documented safety profile. PDRN is a biological substance that the body recognises, which minimises the risk of side effects. All Rejuran treatments at Dibélle in Helsingborg are performed by a registered nurse.

Can I combine Rejuran with other treatments?

Absolutely, and we often recommend it. Rejuran combines excellently with Botox, fillers, Dermapen and chemical peeling. We recommend at least 2 weeks between different treatments.

How much does Rejuran cost in Helsingborg?

At Dibélle in Helsingborg, we offer Rejuran treatments from 4,500 SEK. The price may vary depending on your individual needs and the number of treatment areas. Book a free consultation for a personal assessment. See all our prices for a complete overview.

How quickly are results visible?

The first improvements are typically noticed after 2 to 3 weeks, with maximum effect after 4 to 8 weeks. Rejuran works gradually, it is not an immediate "wow" effect like fillers, but a subtle, progressive improvement that makes your skin look naturally rejuvenated.

What is the difference between Rejuran and Profhilo?

Both are biostimulators, but they work in different ways. Rejuran contains PDRN (polynucleotides from salmon DNA) and works with cellular repair. Profhilo contains highly concentrated hyaluronic acid and works primarily with deep moisture balance and elastin stimulation. They combine excellently, Rejuran for cell renewal and Profhilo for moisture balance.

Are there side effects from Rejuran?

The most common side effects are mild and transient: the small bumps (papules) that disappear within 1 to 2 days, along with mild redness and swelling. Bruising may occur at injection points but fades quickly. Serious side effects are extremely rare. All treatments at Dibélle in Helsingborg are performed by a registered nurse with extensive experience, which further minimises risk.
