PRF – Platelet Rich Fibrin

PRF stands for Platelet Rich Fibrin. The fibrin in PRF acts as a form of 3-dimensional mesh that keeps the cells in place at the injection site and ensures maximum effect. What is the difference between PRF and PRP? PRF and PRP are similar to each other; however, PRF is a newer method for isolating regenerative cells and is considered better and more effective in relation to treating hair loss. PRF is centrifuged more slowly than PRP, which results in more functional cells that remain in the area for a longer period. Hair growth with PRF means that the hair follicles (which produce hair) are stimulated to go from a resting phase to an active phase. PRF also makes the follicle thicker, meaning the hair strands gradually become thicker and stronger. This is achieved by injecting PRF into the dermis where the hair follicle resides. PRF works best on hair follicles that are resting/dormant, but not on dead follicles. In practical terms, this means that PRF has the best effect in the first years of experiencing hair loss. It is recommended to have 4 treatments with approximately 1 month intervals, followed by 1 treatment per year. You may experience hair growth after just two treatments, but the full effect is usually not seen until after 1 year. Results are highly individual and also depend on lifestyle factors and genetics.
