What we hear most often across the counter on Kullagatan is not a question about a product. It is a question about order. Usually the answer is that none of them does.
What is ZO Skin Health?
ZO is an American skincare brand sold through clinics rather than off a department store shelf. What separates it from much else is that the range is built as a routine, not as a collection of standalone products. The products depend on each other. A pad does a job that a serum then builds on, and if you skip the pad the serum starts from a worse position than it was made for.
You can see it in how the shelves are sorted. Our 52 ZO products sit in eleven groups: cleansers, exfoliants, toners and pads, hydration, anti-ageing and serums, brightening, blemishes and redness, eyes, sunscreen, neck and body and programmes.
The groups are not a catalogue flourish. They are the steps.
Why we brought ZO in
Diana runs the shop, and she chose the brand for a reason that sounds dull said out loud: it can be explained. A customer who buys three ZO products can be told exactly why those three, in what order to use them and what actually happens if one of the steps gets skipped. That is not true of everything we have been offered.
So we do not sell ZO because the name is known. We sell it because a routine the customer understands is a routine the customer finishes, and a finished routine is the only kind of skincare that gives a result worth talking about.
Start with the base
ZO calls the first three steps Getting Skin Ready: cleanse, exfoliate, balance. The name comes from the brand itself, which is why the abbreviation GSR turns up all over the range and in the names of their programmes.

Short version: a Gentle Cleanser if your skin is normal, an Exfoliating Polish a couple of times a week and Complexion Renewal Pads afterwards. That is the whole base. Three products.
Skin that has been prepared takes up what you put on it. Skin that has not does not, whatever you paid for the serum.
Once the base is in place
Only when the three steps have settled into everyday life is it worth adding something that does a more specific job, and one product at a time is plenty.
Daily Power Defense is the most common one. It goes on in the evening, holds retinol and antioxidants, and works with the skin barrier rather than against it. If it is radiance and daytime protection you are after, Illuminating AOX Serum is the morning version, an antioxidant serum that meets free radicals and environmental stress while you are out in it.
Radical Night Repair is a clear step up in retinol strength. It comes in slowly, never in the same week as anything else new, and never on the same evening as an exfoliation.
Sunscreen does not count as an addition. It belongs to the base. Pick Daily Sheer SPF 50, or Daily Mineral Sunshade if you prefer a mineral filter.
If you know what you are after
The base is the same for everyone. What goes on top of it is not.
If your skin is prone to redness, Rozatrol was developed for exactly that. It calms and normalises sebum production instead of covering it over. Where the issue is uneven pigmentation, Brightalive Skin Brightener does the job without hydroquinone, and the effect builds over months rather than weeks.
Pores that show in daylight are a different matter. Instant Pore Refiner is a primer, cosmetic rather than treatment, but it cuts the shine straight away and works as well on its own as it does under make-up. If you want something that works deeper, there is Growth Factor Serum, whose growth factors support the skin's own renewal.
And sunscreen, again, because that is the step people skip. Daily Sheer SPF 50 goes on invisibly and leaves no white streaks.
What not to do
Do not buy the whole routine at once. It is the expensive mistake we see most often.
Change five products in the same week and your skin reacts, and there is no way for you to know which one caused it. You are left with five bottles and a guess. Add one product at a time and give it two weeks before the next.
The other common mistake is retinol and exfoliation on the same evening. Skin copes with it sometimes. Often it does not.

Common questions
Do I have to buy the whole ZO routine? No. Start with cleanser, exfoliant and pads, and you have the base. Plenty of people stop there and are happy with it.
Can I mix ZO with what I already have at home? Yes, but change one thing at a time. Bring in three new products at once and there is nothing to work back from when your skin protests.
What is the difference from what I buy at the chemist? The concentrations are usually higher and the products are built to be used as a system, which is also why the brand is sold through clinics where someone can explain the order.
How quickly does anything show? The surface of the skin responds within a few weeks. Deeper change takes considerably longer than that, and anyone who promises you otherwise is selling something other than skincare.
Do you keep it all in stock? The range shifts with the deliveries. Current stock shows in the online shop, and what is listed as sold out there is sold out on the shelf at Kullagatan too.
